Our Classical Conversations Cycle 3 Week 4 Plan

Happy Tuesday, y'all! As I sit down to plan our coming week, I'm reflecting on what we accomplished over the last couple of weeks. We had 2 weeks off of CC, but we stuck to our regular routine and did some review of our memory work. We didn't get to all of our bonus activities, but that's ok. We did get to a few that we really enjoyed, including a fun field trip to Louisiana's Old Governor's Mansion. My boys also really took a liking to the Liberty Kid's video series, so they watched more episodes than I had planned for. Through watching the Liberty Kids Series, as well as reading several books from the library, Silas began asking some really good questions. We had some discussions on slavery and on war. I am amazed at how classical education truly leads to CONVERSATIONS. It is such a joy to be able to dialog with my kids on these important topics and to provide them with a Biblical worldview. Oh yeah, and I can't forget the multitude of YouYube videos we watched about hurricanes, which provided lots of good discussion about the weather!

This coming week, I am not going to divide our activities by days of the week. Instead, I will focus on our morning routine (math, language arts, & memory work), and then make a list of activities that we can choose from during the week according if and when we find the available time. I love what Leigh Bortins says in the Foundations Guide about "saving the hands-on stuff for afternoons when all the basics have been covered."

Morning Routine
  • Bible Memory Work/CC Memory Work
  • Math
  • Language Arts (Dictation for Spelling, Copywork for Grammar and Handwriting)
  • Reading Practice
  • Work on Presentation for CC
  • Read Aloud from Library Books

Activities to Scatter Throughout the Week/Weekend:
  • Complete this Math Worksheet (Instructions here) to determine how far men had to travel to write the Declaration of Independence (I love practical math!)
  • Have a Minutemen Relay (have the boys create an obstacle course)

I'd love to hear any of your ideas for the week!

Love,
Beth
