Desperation Set In

Yes, this is my child sleeping on the dryer!
(Colic Remedy- and it worked! Don't worry, we monitored him VERY closely!)
So apparently the Lord had so much faith in our parenting skills that he blessed Kevin and I with a colicky baby aka one that cries ALOT :) And this, my friends, is the #1 reason why my poor blog is suffering. I've been wanting to update everyone on my "new mommy" experiences, and to be honest, all that I can say at this point is that this has been one of the most challenging experiences of my life thus far. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Silas beyond words and I LOVE being a mommy, but learning how to comfort and meet the needs of a "touchy baby" (as the Baby Whisperer would define Silas) has pretty much consumed my life for all 32 days of Silas' life (ok, maybe like 30 days because he was pretty calm in the hospital- haha).

As I type this Silas is sleeping right beside me wedged between my leg and the arm of the recliner. He's just come off the dryer (you can laugh- I am :) and he's taking an afternoon nap- a rarity for him these days. So how are Silas' mommy and daddy dealing with these challenges? Well, first of all, we acknowledge daily that the Lord is our source of strength-we couldn't do it without Him. Secondly, we soak up every moment with Silas (even the ones when he's screaming uncontrollably), realizing that this is only a season and we don't want to miss out on any of his precious life. Thirdly, we laugh. We laugh at our rookie parenting skills and we laugh at Silas' silly faces and the way he passes gas like a grown man! We laugh at the silly songs we sing to Silas during his crying spells and we laugh when we see characteristics of ourselves come out in Silas (Kevin's hearty appetite, my bad temper, etc.). Yes, I've shed some tears, but learning to laugh has been good medicine ;)

So there you go- this is life as we know it. No more comparing Silas to those textbook babies- he's his own unique person and we're learning more about him with every passing day. I wouldn't trade these days for anything.
