Silas' Airplane Ride

We're back from KY! Actually, we got back Thursday evening, but I haven't gotten a chance to update the blog since our return. For those who don't know, Kevin, Silas, and I, along with my parents and sister attended the Together for the Gospel conference in Louisville, KY last week. It was an awesome conference, and I can't speak for everyone, but as for me, I came home refreshed in the Lord and ready to take what I learned and put it into practice. Shout out to my Mom and Sister who rotated with me in caring for Silas so that I could actually attend many of the sessions! I'm hoping to share some of my spiritual insights later this week, but for the purpose of this blog post, I'd just like to document Silas' first airplane ride!

Needless to say, I was quite nervous about being on a plane with my extremely ACTIVE one year old. I would dare say that being confined is his LEAST favorite thing at the moment. But much to my surprise, he did really well! The big concern at first was his ears popping, but they didn't seem to bother him in the least on any of the flights. Another concern was him not wanting to sit still. But although he didn't particularly ENJOY being confined to one general location, he wasn't as expressive about it as I thought he would be (aka screaming at and hitting those who were holding him down -- yes, we're going through THAT stage right now. Lord, Help me.) I know his good behavior was due largely on the fact that his grandparents and nanny were there to help occupy him. They were a HUGE help.

So with no further adieu, here are some pictures of some of the highlights...

#1. Does this look like the face of a child not enjoying his airplane ride? Nope. Thanks for making him laugh, Mimi!

#2. And, Mimi, while we're thanking you for the laughter, we may as well thank you for keeping your cool after Silas spit Cheese Puffs in your face! (Notice the orange dots on Mimi's forehead. And she's still smiling. Wow.)

#3. And thanks, Nanny, for sharing your window seat. And for helping out in SO many other ways during this trip!

#4. Silas DID sleep on two of the four airplanes rides. But it wasn't in Mama's arms. It was in Mimi's arms. She's got that special touch.

#5.  No, the following picture was NOT taken on the airplane, but this post would not be complete without a big THANKS to Pop, who took many a walks with Silas during the extent of our stay in KY to help the little guy burn off some energy!

So there you have it- Silas' first airplane ride! Thanks to everyone who commented on facebook and here on the blog giving hints on how to making flying fun for the WHOLE family!
