April Fool's Day

.... celebrated by many, scorned by many. I’m sure that all of us at some time or another have either been instigators, victims, or simply jesting bystanders of practical jokes carried out on this day. Either way, we have all celebrated the existence of “fools.” As I think about the idea of fools today, I am reminded of what the Bible has to say about fools or being foolish. The Bible portrays foolishness as the opposite of wisdom, and the Bible says that true wisdom is to fear or honor God (Proverbs 1:7) and to obey Him (Matthew 7:26). It further states that true wisdom comes from God himself (Proverbs 2:6). Therefore, to reject and disobey God classifies one as a fool (Psalms 14:1), and of this we have all been guilty. The Bible says that without the knowledge of God all men are foolish (Titus 3:3). The good news is that, “...God our Savior showed us his kindness and love. He saved us, not because of the good things we did, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins and gave us a new life through the Holy Spirit” (Titus 3:4-5). Apart from the mercy of God we would forever be fools, trusting in the wisdom of the world and not in the wisdom of God. Thank God that He has provided a way for us to know Him (true wisdom) through the cross of His Son Jesus Christ. But be warned, trusting in the wisdom of God will not give you popularity in this world because the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to those who believe it is the power of God (1Corinthians 1:18).

If you lack wisdom today, ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to you (James 1:5).

A Fool for Jesus,

Beth
